There was much curiosity about the works as we toured them in Swansea. Libby asked if Dylan Thomas was a genie and really liked this genie image for the Mural at school. Megan asked if the surrounding pictures on Pete Fowler’s Mural were Dylan Thomas’ favourite things. In their school grounds there was a Dylan Thomas writing shed so the image of Dylan himself in their mural would be a must.
Megan stated that Sean Polsun’s work looked like it was influenced by Kadinsky. Megan P said, “money can’t grow on trees”, as a response to Sinta Tantra’s work, referring to the golden shapes in the Palm trees. Libby asked if it was influenced by a dance studio in L.A. Molly also loved the drawings on Olaf Breuning’s sculpture Yes ?No? Jake asked if it was about love and hate.
Back at school the little girl on Olaf Breuning’s sculpture was a well-liked drawing and we all decided to put something similar into our Mural saying PPS (Penllegaer Primary School). Phil Cheater’s and David Long’s work was explained back at school as it wasn’t on the tour and the children responded well loving the colour and concepts of both. We all loved making the mural and we were lucky enough to be situated in a large garage on the school grounds. The mural was created in two parts to be sited in a prime spot within the school grounds. Penllegaer are going for a Swansea in Bloom award this year and the judges saw us at work and were very impressed with what we were creating. They said how interesting it would look within the school grounds, “a great piece of art” they said.
