This “Swansea Icons” workshop took a slightly different approach. The students at Waun Wen spent the beginning of the workshop thinking about Swansea and which parts were most important to them, our Outreach Coordinator Erin then created a long list of all the students ideas which were then voted for. Once the group had democratically agreed on what to include in their mural they split into teams, each with their own topic. These teams then started to develop icons and drawings, some worked from their memories and others used the classroom computer to research different viewpoints. Once each of the teams had created their icons of Swansea the whole group then started cutting up the drawings and collaging them together to make a large-scale mural that would be displayed in their school.
