Guided Tour of Locws International Art Across The City 2011
What a great way to begin the Locws tours, with the children asking if they could please sketch Laura Ford’s “Little Bird”. Lowri thought it was made from melted coal. Ethan said he would love to see this as another child in his class and Gareth thought it would be a good idea to make a version of this that moved.
We then had a great walk through the city observing various contrasting buildings and looking up at the various shaped roof tops. This took us onto our next work which also contrasted our city walk as we viewed Maider Lopez work “Trees”. The children really enjoyed this Artwork and again were eager to draw it in situation. ‘This looks really pretty, with the sun and shadows’, commented Lowri.
Gareth made a great observational contrast that the work was natural as opposed to man made. ‘They look like giant sized sugar puffs’, said Aled regarding “Holocene”. I was very impressed when Chloe asked if they were giant grains of sand. The general feeling was that the scale of the work was impressive and everyone again enjoyed drawing them.
Most of the class pondered about Rhys’ “industrial Revolution” and needed more time to form an idea for a project for this. We finished off by enjoying “Nothing should stand in your way” the teacher thinking that there was a link between “The Rebecca Riots” and Felindre School . This needed to be investigated.
