Locws Schools 2015: Mayals Primary: Tour

Art Across the City 2015 Tour

Jude said,” It looks like a car but after drawing it, it looks like a dolphin”.
Mehki asked, “Is it a plane?”.
Martha said, “ The texture looks like a turtle’s shell, from the side it looks like a mast,” These were some of the imaginative ideas that the children thought up after drawing David Cushway’s work.Whilst viewing the Memory board of Colin Priest’s work Lucy commented
that, “My mum said that the slip bridge on the video used to have shops in the arches”.
A few children asked if the slip bridge film was in real time, which was interesting.
Lauren thought that the communal postcard installation resembled a huge sheep.
Mehki and Josh were really interested in the archive pictures that Colin Priest had highlighted and started to copy some of the text into their sketch books.
Louis couldn’t believe the scale of Jeremy Deller’s work and molly instantly related it to Dylan Thomas.
Michael Stumpf’s work got an interesting response. Dylan asked, “Is it a guy trapped inside a crystal?”.
Maia thought “It’s a guy putting up an umbrella’.
When Olivia saw Emily Speed’s balloon work she said, “Its upside down, it’s really confusing”.
Jude said, “If they were inflated they could lift the whole class. I think that they used to be inflated and probably looked really good”.
Our last Artwork viewed by Graham Dolphin created a lot of questions about what was art. Mehki asked, “Did there used to be a lake here?”. Lucy asked, “Was this in California?” and Sophie asked if the sculpture was an historical monument.
Katie said, “I really love this trip as I didn’t know how much art was in Swansea”.
