Locws Schools 2015: Mayals Primary: Workshops

Workshop days with David Marchant

Based on their school logo, which is a lighthouse, we took the concept of Colin Priest’s work and created an artwork. The centre of the artwork consisted of a 2d lighthouse with a series of card made pebbles at the base. The background consisted of photographed skies cut into cloud shapes.

Year 5 wrote their own school memories on the pebbled bases leaving other participants in the school to write their memories on the sky area of the artwork. The whole artwork is placed in the entrance to the school with a pen at reception so that volunteers can then write their memories of the school on the clouds adding to the artwork as Colin Priest also did. The class had great fun making this and the finished result really paid off.

Other groups were inspired by the pond area of the school which was due for a revamp. They made figures based on the English countryside such as a badger, frog and a fox. Each animal was collaged and will be place around the school holding a series of signs such as “Reception”, “Reading corner” and “School Office”. Not only are these very enjoyable pieces of artwork but they are very practical too. They will make a great addition to the schools display areas.
