Art Across the City 2015 Tour
We had a great start to the morning as it was announced that Lilly had won the Locws drawing competition and everyone gave her a big cheer.
We had loads of feedback when I asked the class what David Cushway’s work reminded the class about.
Chloe said it reminded her of some sort of animal. “The texture looks like dried salt “, said George.
“It reminds me of life,” said Ethan.
A roller-skate, dinosaur remains, bike helmet, clog, bullet, a Cello, were only a handful of the imaginative answers.
Freya had great memories of the beach when she took cover under a blanket to hide from the rain. George noticed some sand fire in Colin Priest’s video.
Chloe, said, “when I went to the beach I had an ice cream and liked it so much I called it an nice cream.”
“How does that count as art”’, said Oliver referring to Jeremy Deller’s work.
George described Michael Stumpf’s work as a ‘pink blob’. It reminded Katie of James and the Giant Peach, and Dafydd said that it changes when you sit in different places.
Whilst walking to our next destination Stumpf’s work was a firm favourite and discussed in relation to the question, ‘What is art?’
Ethan thought that the balloons that Emily Speed had created were speaking about the achievement and goals of the council and Chloe said that because they are deflated now “it represented that maybe some of the goals were never achieved”.
Evie saw that her Swansea sign that she and some others had created had become part of Graham Dolphin’s artwork and one group suggested that this idea would look good with Oystermouth signage on outside the school.
