Art Across the City 2015 Tour
The children were keen to comment as soon as the tour began.
Brooke thought that David Cushway’s work was a seal, Majdi thought it was a fast shoe, Jake thought it was a Giant’s shoe and Lewis asked “Is it a car without wheels?”Kadie had a memory of seeing a mermaid in the sea on the beach, which gave her the idea to make a beach scene with a mermaid on a rock. Divine thought that Kadie’s idea was great idea and would like to join her in the making of this concept.
Luke liked Colin Priest’s work, especially the memory wall, as he thought that it reminded people of really fun occasions. The children already had some knowledge about Swansea’s history and Katie said that the slip bridge was the source of inspiration for his work and Divine said that Joe’s ice-cream was also the source of where the ideas came from.
Katie knew that Dylan Thomas inspired Jeremy Deller’s work. Brooke, Divine, Katie and Lewis had all played a part of the “Dilation’ in the Grand Theatre.
Lewis said, “This guy is performing with his fancy skills hiding in a rock” whilst viewing Michael Stumpf’s work. Katie thought that one of the sculptures was a Genies lantern and Damien said it was a golden trophy. Damien also asked if the pink blob had swallowed a person in whole Kiesha found them fascinating because they were unusual.
Emily Speed’s work conjured up happy and sad feelings about the city and Majdi thought it was scary.
Damien said that he was pleased that he had seen ‘Art Across the City’ everywhere and had had a great day. Kiesha said that she really enjoyed unravelling what the artworks meant. Jake replied, “I love doing art”.
