Art Across the City 2015 Tour
Gowerton Comprehensive School’s year 9 children were extremely enthusiastic and were keen to start the tour.
Lily thought that David Cushway’s Work looked like a futuristic Alien pod. Courtney and Nishaath thought it looked like a Bobsleigh.
Sonia said, “ the future looks like its degrading”. Ben thought it was based on a Rhino.
By assessing the Archival material of Colin Priest’s work Jack, Tommy and Tom quickly made a connection with the slip bridge being the source of inspiration of his Artwork.
Lily thought that it would be a nice idea to incorporate memories from their School as part of their Artwork inspired by the postcard work.
Jeremy Deller’s work caused much discussion with Abbie commenting, “its true because its written in black and white. Its Plain and simple” she also said, “I would write ‘Don’t be boring”.
Cori-leigh said that she would write “Social media ruins lives” and Jamie said “technology saves lives”. Abi demanded ”make it glow In the dark”.
As we walked further away from Deller’s work some children thought that it looked larger as they could compare it with the surrounding buildings.
Michael Stumpf generated a lot of discussion. Abi said “is it about being in a personal space bubble?, shaded from reality”.
Megan thought that Emily Speed’s “Concrete Dreams “ represented peoples lives are turning into nothingness. Rhys said “Its like children growing up and their imagination sinks downwards”.
Cori-Leigh stated that ‘nothing lasts forever as time goes on things fade almost like saying that the building isn’t going to be here anymore”.
Cori-Leigh also suggesting that the arrows from Graham Dolphin’s work represented that Swansea is everywhere and Rhyan saying that people from Swansea are all over the World.
