Today, Community Officer Patrick assisted us on our tour which was a real treat. As I was explaining about the project Art across the city appeared on the Big Screen in Castle square and I was able to show the group the varied art on show for 2014.
Rosie made lots of Dylan Thomas references and commented “don’t go gently into the night” and “is that captain cat”, referring to the Burgerman Artwork. Shanteen and Jorja said that the drawings looked like doodles.
Ridwant asked “is this called Monsterous Nature?”
Lewis responded to Jeremy Deller’s work quoting “I like this because he thinks that more poetry is needed” Lewis said that he would write ‘more poetry is definitely needed’.
Terrace Road pupil Molly said, “Art isn’t a hobby it’s a feeling”.
Rosie disagreed with Bob and Roberta Smith’s statement “Art makes children powerful” as she thought that it made everyone powerful not just children.
Jack understood Craig Fisher’s Homefront instantly and Molly recognised the trench / barracks area relating it to ‘The Great War’.
Shauna loved the mega poem by Rhian Edwards and added “Art is magical just like you” and Rosie quoted “ All you have to do is let your imagination flow”.
