Guided Tour
Its always interesting to see the reaction from teenage children on a contemporary art tour and this tour was no exception.
“Are you serious”, said Alex as we approached Marko Mäetamm’s ‘Graveground’. “It looks like a bombed up playground”. Said Becky. Sarah commented, “it looks like its fallen from the sky”. “It reminds me of broken dreams and forgotten memories”, commented Kirsty.
Tanya Axford’s film brought out words such as Calming, peaceful, different, strange, too long, and depressing. Karla loved this work for alternative means, as she liked the way it was set up and one could form shadows in the background. This set a great idea for her recreating this situation with a new screen, which had recently been set up in their new school.
Megan Broadmeadow’s ‘Ship shape’ had comments such as “wow that’s awesome. ‘Its amazing’, ‘it’s a giant shoe’. “Now I’m inspired,” said Rhian. “Was it inspired by water transport”, said Ryan.
There were some interesting comments on Neeme Külm’s work ‘Dylan Thomas’. “It’s like having a present and you don’t know what’s inside”. “I like this sculpture its mysterious and makes you wonder, it gives you the need to think”, said Andrea. “ I’d prefer this one to the other ones. This isn’t trying to be art, it just is what it is”, said Carrie.
