It was great to see the year 3 children document their tour with iPads, with some fantastic drawings being produced along the way.
Dylan said that the texture of Dylan Thomas’s pencil looked like cracked stone, “It feels weird and bumpy”, he said. Brianna said, “Pencils were Dylan’s favourite thing ever, that’s why the artist built one”. Ella and Brianna were wondering if the tip actually would write. A lot of the children noticed cobwebs at the base of the pencil and were keen to observe.
The children were very impressed with the amalgamation of images in the Mural created by Pete Fowler. Ella said, “I love the space ships’’.
“More pink is needed” said Libby, “No School” said Christian. These were all responses to Jeremy Deller’s art piece, “More poetry is needed”.
The children created some excellent drawings on their Locws tour and back at school transferred them onto large lengths of paper. There were lots of ideas inspired by the art we had seen. A series of banners held by pencils with poetry collages and slogans, such as “More love is needed”, were created by the children.
Other children focused on Owls taken from the Pete Fowler mural and looked upon them as being specific to their work as at their school they are very ‘wise’. They made a series of ‘Mod-rock’ owls using leaves as feathers as they were familiar with environmental art. The owls perched on a bench, which would overlook the classroom.
