It was a great start to the Locws tours with a calm group of children and enthusiastic teachers. Carys and Sophie instantly picked up on the Under Milk Wood influences of the Jon Bergerman. Carys said, “on the map there is a heart on it perhaps to show that Dylan’s heart is always in Swansea”.
The children set about making their own “Micro” poems on site in response to Jeremy Deller’s work More Poetry Is Needed.
Darrel wrote:
‘Dylan is always here so lets all give a cheer,
Where there is light there is Dark.”
We then commented on the work Art Makes Children powerful where we all agreed that this was a good Statement by Bob & Roberta Smith.
At the Museum Craig Fishers Home Front went down well with all pupils and Josh asked “Is it about Jesus?”
The children made their own sketches and gave them their own titles e.g. Carys – ‘Wall for a Bed’ and Katie ‘The wooden Pillow’.
“I love this, its amazing”, said Ellie You just don’t see things like this everywhere you go”.
We Finished off our tour with Tom Goddard’s work. Everyone was amazed with Lizzie’s story. We snowballed lots of ideas of how we could make elephants from different materials engaging with all of the artwork we had seen today.
