Another beautiful day for an exciting Locws tour across the city. After a few tips on how to unravel the meanings behind contemporary Art we were off to a good start as Alex asked if the Jon Bergerman art piece was based on Dylan Thomas’ work. Gwenno commented “I like the way each character means something different”.
Mirain thought it looked like a fantasy story and this idea set everyone thinking and the children decided on a small brief ; to make up your own fantasy stories based on the same Characters.
Abigail commented on Jeremy Deller’s More Poetry is needed. “Its definitely a statement”, she said. Steffan made up a quote saying, “Life is to be lived not to be read”.Ellis made up his own Statement which said “Swaglicious Swansea”
In the maritime Museum the children were keen to add to the Mega Poem created by Rhian Evans.
Jamie commented on Craig Fishers work by saying “because the War was dark maybe the Artist tried to brighten it up and make it less depressing”.
We created lots of drawings of the works and started to think of what creations we could make at school.
It was very interesting to hear the comments regarding Tom Goddard’s work, Steffan saying, “in the first plaque the elephant falls. In the second he grows then lands, dies and then comes back as a circus Ghost in the third”. Alex asked “is this an elephant inflating ?” whilst, uncannily, Gruffydd said, “Is it the past present and future?”
