In one day we rebuilt Swansea

The second workshop of the Spring 2013 ‘Art Across The City’ event also took place in Swansea Museum, but this time had a different twist on it – we were no longer just designing new murals for Swansea. The mural competition is happily running alongside the event and it seemed a shame not to use the wonderful space in Swansea Museum to its full potential. So we looked at Phil Cheater’s artwork “Land-Marked“, a vision of a sinking or possibly rising city, and we thought ‘wouldn’t Swansea be a more interesting place if all our buildings had those colours and patterns?’

With the help of the wonderful staff at Play Right we set the task for everyone to add a bit to the ‘futuristic Swansea’, saying to people as they entered the education room “what do you think Swansea is missing? and if you could build Swansea again what would you include?” Everyone’s faces lit up! They all had so many ideas that they were all so excited about, “A princess castle, a cat-house indoor gardens, a slide from the building tops into the sea, a happy-house, a giant play-zone inside a skyscraper, a merry-go-round / lighthouse and a roast potato shop… just to name a few!
