Calum Stirling was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland

Calum Stirling is a multi disciplinary artist and studied sculpture at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee (1983-87). He is perhaps best known for his exploration of sound as a tactile and sculptural media and his leftfield approach to technology in dynamic contexts. In more recent works he has focused on exploring illusion, perception and chance occurrence in relation to both static and mobile sculptural form. His practise combines traditional sculptural techniques and handmade electronic in works such as Rostra Plaza his largescale multimedia sculpture and video installation for Glasgow International 2008 and the project Landstylus devised for Makrolab to translate the topography of the highlands into sound

Stirling has exhibited widely, including The Ottawa Art Gallery Canada, Galleri Rekord Oslo, The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Geneva, The Generali Foundation Vienna and The National Gallery of Australia. Recent commissions include The Human Arc for The Open Eye Club at Tramway Glasgow and Rostra Plaza for Glasgow International 2008. He is currently undertaking a major public artwork for the New Victoria Hospital in Glasgow
