Art Across The City Launch Event:
National Waterfront Museum, Swansea 6.30 – 8.30pm, 28th Sept 2012
Opened by Councillor David Phillips, Leader of the City & County of Swansea
You and your guests are warmly invited to join us for refreshments at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea, to celebrate the launch of Art Across The City 2012…
Opened by Councillor David Phillips, the launch is the start of over six weeks of Art Across The City. Locws International is pleased to announce five new temporary public art commissions for Art Across The City 2012 by internationally recognised and emerging local artists. The five new artworks will be situated in highly visible locations, responding to Swansea’s rich and diverse heritage, culture and population. They will be complemented by a series of permanent and ongoing works including Locws International’s Art Across The High Street programme.
The Art Across the City 2012 artists are:
• Joanne Tatham & Tom O’Sullivan
• David Blandy
• Fiona Curran
• David Marchant
• Jock Mooney
Joanne Tatham & Tom O’Sullivan’s shelters on Museum Green are decorated with a rainbow pattern and a cartoon cut-out face; David Blandy has created The Devil meets Dylan Thomas, a videogame where you play as Swansea’s literary hero; Fiona Curran uses two trees in the grounds of St Mary’s Church as the foundation for a colourful accident; David Marchant’s Cowin’ Lush neon were created using the drunken scrawls of revellers on Swansea’s infamous Wind St; Jock Mooney’s graphic drawings of Bonnie Tyler, Swansea Jack, ice creams and The Swansea Devil are turned into the Swansea Kebab, situated in Castle Gardens.
For our launch event, David Blandy’s The Devil Meets Dylan Thomas will be available to play in our unique information hub situated in the Museum courtyard, before being relocated to Oxford St, Swansea. Visitors to the launch event will be able to draw their own self portrait on David Marchant’s blackboards, which were the original inspiration for his neon work on Swansea’s notorious Wind Street. A short film documenting the Wind Street drawing workshop will also be on display along with films showing the installation of all works.
A display of limited edition prints from each of the artists will be available to buy or reserve on the evening.
The artists will be available for photographs and interview on the evening or by arrangement. Please contact gordon@locwsinternational
