LOCWS Creative Participation Programme 2018
Workshop 6 : Crisis, 20th – 23rd Mar
LOCWS International are proud to work with Crisis for the sixth film course on the LOCWS Creative Participation Programme 2018. Tutor and professional Film-Maker; Jamie Panton, worked with individuals from Crisis over 4 days at Volcano Theatre to deliver the Agored Cymru accredited course in partnership with Adult Learning Wales.

The energetic group of film-makers were full of great ideas, our enthusiastic tutor Jamie supported them to produce a dynamic film that includes a wide variety of creative footage, musical content, poetry, true stories and interviews. The workshop enabled the participants to design, develop and create their own film which involved generating ideas, storyboarding, creative writing, handling advanced technical equipment, filming, conducting interviews, using lighting, video and sound recording, and editing. Participants were encouraged to develop their own ideas from the outset and were guided through the process of scripting, designing, and shooting their films with support from our experienced tutor.
During the week, the group filmed scenes at Volcano Theatre, outdoors on Swansea Bay, around the City Centre and at Creature Sound, Swansea’s newest community music space. The group were inspired to film a live music performance and host interviews at Creature Sound with owner Kaz Chambers, and members of the Minnesota Module charity band, whose musicians support each other in staying abstinent from alcohol and drugs, partly using the therapeutic help of the music they produce, and The 12-step Minnesota model of treatment.
Overall, the group worked as a tightly formed team to create a unique and honest short film about Swansea from their perspective. The participants should feel proud of the work they have done, they overcame the challenges of completing the accreditation work, and the film is an outstanding achievement and a positive reflection of all their efforts and hard work. LOCWS International look forward to helping them celebrate these achievements at SwanComm Film Festival!
Crisis offer free education, training and support within hostels, day centres and local community venues for individuals who are homeless, have been homeless in the last two years or are at risk of becoming homeless. Every year they work with thousands of people to help them rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind for good. Crisis have friendly experts who can help people with finding a home and settling in well, finding work and applying for jobs, and looking after general health and wellbeing, and anything else depending on individual needs.
