As part of his Art Across The City work, Bay Watch<\/em>, Colin Priest<\/a> has worked with local ice cream parlour, Joe’s Ice Cream, to produce the Swansea Slip Bridge Summer Sundae<\/em>, which will be on sale in their Swansea and Mumbles parlours during the exhibition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bay Watch<\/em> is the conclusion to around two-years of conversations, visits to Swansea Bay and an archival investigation into the life of the foreshore. During early visits, back in 2013, Priest was struck by the beach, the sky, and the various architecture found along the promenade \u2013 notably the Slip Bridge which this year celebrates it’s centenary.<\/p>\n

Working with the West-Glamorgan Archive Service<\/span><\/a>, Priest has collated an archive looking at the history of the Slip Bridge, on display in the our Info Hub in the Quadrant Shopping Centre.\u00a0 He has also made a short silent film which looks lovingly at what remains of the Slip Bridge and the beach behind it. The film, on show in the Hub, will be screened on Swansea’s Big Screen in Castle Square on the final day of the Six Nations Rugby (12pm \/ 4.45pm) then randomly througouht the show.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Art Across The City’s Project Manager, Gordon Dalton said ‘Working with Colin Priest and Joe\u2019s Ice Cream<\/span><\/a> in the creation of this limited edition, Swansea\u00a0Slip Bridge Summer\u00a0Sundae, for me captures the spirit and intention of the whole work. It combines walking down the promenade, memories of the Slip Bridge (the wafers are like two sides of the bridge), looking at the sky and a slight nostalgia, with an optimistic view that the bridge may return. All that, and it looks amazing and tastes great.’<\/span><\/p>\n

Through collated ephemera, film, archive material, ice creams and guided tours, Colin Priest’s Bay Watch is tinged with nostalgia, yet hopeful for what the future may bring Swansea.<\/p>\n

A Colin Priest free postcard and a Ltd Edition print<\/a> is available celebrating the Slip Bridge.<\/p>\n
