I\u2019m about to go to Texas to meet a load of cheerleaders, so I\u2019m pretty excited about that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you do?\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nI make art, write and dance as often as possible.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/?attachment_id=9826\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9826\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-9826\" src=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/emilyAtrium-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"emilyAtrium\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/emilyAtrium-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/emilyAtrium-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What have you been looking at recently?<\/strong><br \/>\nEtruscan votive offerings, Gio Ponti furniture, my computer screen (I\u2019m currently editing a film) and holidays that I can\u2019t afford to take.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are you doing for Art Across The City 2015?\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nI am putting several hundred helium balloons, each printed with a fragment of the Civic Centre, inside the atrium of the Civic Centre.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are your ideas behind the work?\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nI am interested in the temporary nature of buildings and so was very struck by the Civic Centre and how it represented a certain period in time. I also felt like there has to be a lot of optimism in the construction of a structure like that and the fact that it is being sold seems quite sad, like it is a kind of failure. The balloons are a bit of a lament for the building I suppose.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you think the public will make of it?<\/strong><br \/>\nI don\u2019t know about that, but I hope that it might lead to people having a good look at the architecture of the Civic Centre. The last person I told about it said that their first memory was of losing a balloon and seeing it bob around out of reach on a ceiling, so perhaps some of those memories too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who are you?\u00a0 I am Emily Speed, an artist with a bad stationery addiction who likes swimming outside.
