{"id":9636,"date":"2014-12-11T15:03:11","date_gmt":"2014-12-11T15:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/?p=9636&#038;langswitch_lang=en"},"modified":"2015-02-10T09:23:28","modified_gmt":"2015-02-10T09:23:28","slug":"two-artists-announced-for-locws-public-art-open-submission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/?p=9636","title":{"rendered":"Two artists announced for Locws Public Art Open Submission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"top\">We are extremely pleased to announce the selected artists for the 2nd Locws International\u00a0<a title=\"Locws Public Art Open Submission Shortlist announced\" href=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/?p=9622&amp;langswitch_lang=en\">Public Art Open Submission<\/a>.\u00a0Locws received a large number of local,\u00a0national and international applications from artists based in the UK, Portugal, Norway, USA, Germany, Australia, Sweden and Wales.\u00a0The standard was extremely high with a wide and diverse range of exciting, eclectic proposals.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><strong>Following discussions between the Locws team and our selectors, <a title=\"Bob &amp; Roberta Smith\" href=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/?portfolio=bob-roberta-smith\">Bob &amp; Roberta Smith<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"www.galeriesimpson.com\">Jane Simpson<\/a>, the 2nd Locws International Public Art Submission has been awarded to two artists, <a href=\"http:\/\/sysongallery.com\/exhibitions\/interface\/\">Liam Aitken<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.counterwork.co.uk\/\">Rich White<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Liam Aitken won two prizes at the <a href=\"http:\/\/nottinghamcastleopen.com\/artist-focus-castle-open-2013-winner-liam-aitken\/\">Nottingham Open<\/a>\u00a02013 and recently had a solo show at <a href=\"http:\/\/sysongallery.com\/\">Syson<\/a>, Nottingham. His practice encompasses mixed media sculptures, digital drawings and paintings of geometric patterns made in response to autobiographical experiences, points in history, landscape, iconic architecture or natural phenomena.\u00a0Rich White makes installation works about location, sense of place and the relationships that develop between people and their environment. Recent shows include G39, Cardiff; Oriel Davies, Newtown and A3, Birmingham. Both artists use public participation in every aspect of their work.
