{"id":7835,"date":"2014-02-10T15:09:52","date_gmt":"2014-02-10T15:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/?p=7835"},"modified":"2014-05-29T10:20:56","modified_gmt":"2014-05-29T10:20:56","slug":"introducing-jon-burgerman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/?p=7835","title":{"rendered":"Introducing Jon Burgerman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the <a title=\"Dt100\" href=\"http:\/\/dylanthomas100.org\/\">Dylan Thomas centenary<\/a> celebrations, Swansea&#8217;s favourite son gets a radically modern makeover from one of the UK&#8217;s most exciting artists. <a title=\"Jon B website\" href=\"http:\/\/jonburgerman.com\/blog\">Jon\u00a0Burgerman<\/a>, famous for his highly colourful, vibrant art and illustrations, has created\u00a0a <em>very<\/em> large-scale collection of weird and wonderful references to Dylan\u2019s writing such as Under Milk Wood. \u00a0Situated opposite the castle and the wilds of Wind Street, Burgerman\u2019s eclectic mural links to both the past and future. We caught up with him for a quick chat ahead of his commission for <a title=\"Art Across The City 2014\" href=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/?p=7758\">Art Across The City 2014<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<b>Who are you?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Jon Burgerman. Living in Brooklyn, originally from the UK. 34. Two eyes. Ten toes. One good knee<\/p>\n<p><b>Hello, how are you?<\/p>\n<p><\/b>Buoyant and brimming full of burrito.<\/p>\n<p><b>What do you do?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I am an artist that draws things and colours them in. Sometimes I sing, sometimes I dance but mainly I sit and\u00a0stroke my stubbly chin.<\/p>\n<p><b>What have you been doing recently?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been working on a variety of projects that include an animation for TV, a series of portraits of girls I&#8217;ve seen on Tumblr for an exhibition and a collection of photographs entitled <i>Head Shots<\/i> were I pose in front of advertisements and billboards where\u00a0someone is brandishing a weapon.<\/p>\n<p>W<b>hat are you doing for Art Across The City in Swansea?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve made a big (3.65 x 3.65m), colourful homage to Dylan Thomas and his work. I was inspired by the work of Thomas, particularly his most famous pieces and the characters in his writing.<\/p>\n<p><b>What do you think the public will make of it?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I hope they&#8217;ll work out what some of the imagery is referring to\u00a0and enjoy being engulfed momentarily in an oversized, over-saturated,\u00a0Dylan Thomas cartoon world.<\/p>\n<p><b>What are you up to next?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Amongst other things I&#8217;ve just started working on a couple of storybook projects, so I think I&#8217;m in for lots of painful writing sessions and back and forth&#8217;s with the publishers.<\/p>\n<p>Jon Burgerman\u2019s <em>Portrait of the Artist as a Young Doodle<\/em> can be seen on the corner of Castle Square, facing Wind Street, 12th April \u2013 1<sup>st<\/sup> June.
