Art Across The City are pleased to announce the launch 24 artworks to be seen across Swansea. Thirteen have been newly commissioned for 2014 with eleven permanent works.<\/p>\n

Six of the new commissions celebrate the Dylan Thomas centenary. Jeremy Deller’s large scale mural tells us More Poetry is Needed; Ultimate Holding Company turn locals into monolithic cardboard heads and Jon Burgerman\u2019s cartoon homage references characters from Dylan\u2019s poetry. As part of this, we have also commissioned three acclaimed writers and poets. Rachel Trezise has produced 5 micro-fictions on beer mats across the City; Niall Griffiths has given a fictional voice to the bus station heads and Rhian Edwards words will act, along with all the other works as inspiration for the Tawe Mega Poem<\/em><\/a>, an interactive online poem with participants all over the world providing their own words.<\/p>\n

Words play a major part in three more commissions. Bob & Roberta Smith declares Art Makes Children Powerful<\/em>; Ross Sinclair presents the Real Life Top Ten Songs of Wales; Jeremy Millar commemorates two separate visits to Swansea by philosophers by flying with a giant flag adorned with Am I Glad to Be Here!<\/em><\/p>\n

Elsewhere, two artists take over museums. Craig Fisher uses WWI archive material in his installation at the National Waterfront Museum whilst Thomas Goddard uses the story of Lizzie the Elephant at Swansea Museum as the starting point for workshops, events and an ‘elephant’ procession through the city.\u00a0Nick Jordan elevates hand painted bird houses looking across Swansea Bay and Lisa Scantlebury creates a photographic cultural trade link in Swansea Marina.<\/p>\n

Eleven permanent LOCWS International commissions further support the 2014 programme. These include works by artists\u00a0Matthew Houlding<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>Juneau Projects<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>Jacob Dahlgren<\/a>;<\/strong>\u00a0Sean Puleston<\/a>;\u00a0<\/strong>Rik Bennett<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>Bedwyr Williams<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>Bermingham and Robinson<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>Mark Folds<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>Niamh McCann<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>Pete Fowler<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong>and\u00a0<\/strong>Sinta Tantra<\/a>.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n
