We are very pleased to have commissioned artist, Matthew Houlding for Art Across The City 2013<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n

Matthew’s sculptures draw us into a fantastic, retro-futuristic world, inspired by architectural forms and models, modernism and a childhood spent in East Africa. Houlding’s recent sculptures and collages are an homage to the utopian zeal of modern architecture, suggesting an inherent optimism and sublime future.<\/p>\n


\n\"houlding\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The work in Swansea is a free standing spatial construction, balancing interlocking and overlapping planes with a tropical colour\u00a0scheme of orange,yellow and blue.\u00a0It combines sculpture, architecture,design and painting and\u00a0is clean cut, sharp edged and graphic in appearance, a three dimensional logo informed by structuralist and formalist architecture.<\/p>\n

Although it is s self contained and creates its own space, it’s placement on\u00a0the rotunda in front of Swansea’s Guildhall, not only mirrors the building’s tower but references the nearby beach.<\/p>\n

Art Across The City 2013 runs from Sept 6th – Oct 6th featuring Matthew Houlding, Juneau Projects<\/a>, Laura Sorvala<\/a>, Jacob Dalgren.<\/a><\/p>\n
