Its inspiration comes from local icon, <a title=\"Pete Fowler gives Dylan Thomas a cosmic makeover\" href=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/?p=6135\">Dylan Thomas<\/a>, and artworks created by <a title=\"Swansea Icons Workshops\" href=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/?cat=162\">school children<\/a> from the city. Playing with quirky references to his writing, the mural celebrates Dylan\u2019s work with affectionate nods to Swansea and brings a vibrant dash of colour and history to the High Street.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/?attachment_id=6214\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6214\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6214\" alt=\"pete4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/pete4.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/pete4.jpg 650w, https:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/pete4-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The giant 9 x 6m mural has Dylan as its centrepiece, complemented by Fowler\u2019s unique take on Swansea including it\u2019s maritime and mining heritage, Viking history, UFO sightings alongside two giant horses and a pair of pink octopus. The work was developed alongside Locws International\u2019s \u2018Swansea Icons\u2019 workshop programme, where local school children were involved in learning about Swansea and proposing new icons for the City, many of which are featured in Fowler\u2019s largest commission to date.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/?attachment_id=6215\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6215\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6215\" alt=\"pete6\" src=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/pete6.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/pete6.jpg 650w, https:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/pete6-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some of Pete Fowler\u2019s most recognisable images have been for the successful Welsh band Super Furry Animals, with album covers, videos and merchandise. His legendary creations have spanned toy figures, clothing, CDs, stationary and more, gaining him a world-wide fan base.<br \/>\nLocws International\u2019s Project Manager, Gordon Dalton said \u2018Pete\u2019s work is extremely popular and instantly recognisable. It\u2019s a great introduction to Swansea for first time visitors, and a pick me up for commuters and residents of the City. The school workshops programme has been an inspiration for the children and the artists alike\u2019. Russell Greenslade, Chief Executive of Swansea BID, said, &#8216;As the lead for The Art Across The High Street project it&#8217;s great to see this project come to life helping improve the trading environment in the area it&#8217;s in.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/?attachment_id=6216\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6216\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6216\" alt=\"pete8\" src=\"http:\/\/www.locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/pete8.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/pete8.jpg 650w, https:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/pete8-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fowler\u2019s latest work is part of the Art Across The High Street scheme, a partnership project to improve the appearance of Swansea City Centre by commissioning bold artworks for disused or run-down retail units. The project is funded by the Welsh Government, City &amp; County of Swansea and Swansea BID and delivered in partnership with LOCWS International. Art Across The High Street is contributing to the regeneration of Swansea City Centre, making it a more desirable, attractive location.
