\nWorking closely with the Amgueddfa Cymru\u2013 National Museum Wales\u2019 ceramic collection, Calum Stirling has investigated Swansea\u2019s famous Cambrian Pottery works and created a major installation based on pieces from the collection that were manufactured in Swansea. The blue painted scenes depicted on the plates, jugs and cups are recognisable landscapes that combine Chinese references with familiar British landscapes.
\nIn his large-scale sculptural installation, Stirling has reconstructed these \u2018imaginary\u2019 landscapes, combining the fantasy depictions from the 1800s with familiar landmarks that can be found across Swansea today. The work is constructed like a theatrical set, through which viewers can navigate the scenery; immersing themselves in a landscape that could have come from China, Swansea or the depths of the imagination.
\nThis project has been organised as part of Celf Cymru Gyfan\u2013ArtShare Wales, Amgueddfa Cymru\u2013National Museum Wales\u2019 visual arts partnership scheme, generously funded by the Esm\u00e9e Fairbairn Foundation.

Wrth weithio\u2019n agos \u00e2 chasgliad cerameg Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Cymru, mae Calum Stirling wedi archwilio crochenwaith enwog Corchendy Cambrian Abertawe ac mae wedi creu darn mawr sy\u2019n seiliedig ar weithiau o\u2019r casgliad a gynhyrchwyd yn Abertawe. Mae\u2019r golygfeydd sydd wedi\u2019u darlunio mewn glas ar y platiau, y jygiau a\u2019r cwpanau yn dirluniau cyfarwydd sy\u2019n cyfuno cyfeiriadau Tsieineaidd \u00e2 thirluniau cyfarwydd Prydain.<\/p>\n

Yn y gosodiad cerfluniol mawr hwn, mae Stirling wedi ail-adeiladu\u2019r tirluniau \u2018dychmygol\u2019 hyn gan gyfuno darluniau ffantasi\u2019r 1800au \u00e2 thirluniau cyfarwydd y gellir dod o hyd iddynt ledled Abertawe heddiw. Mae\u2019r prosiect hwn wedi\u2019i drefnu fel rhan o gynllun partneriaeth celf weledol Celf Cymru Gyfan\u2013ArtShare Wales, Amgueddfa Cymru\u2013Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Cymru, wedi\u2019i ariannu\u2019n hael gan Sefydliad Esm\u00e9e Fairbairn.<\/p>\n

Ganwyd Calum Stirling yng Nghaeredin ac mae\u2019n byw ac yn gweithio yn Glasgow, yr Alban. Astudiodd gerflunwaith yng Ngholeg Celfyddydau Duncan of Jordanstone yn Dundee, yr Alban (1983-87).<\/p>\n
