After initial introductions we viewed Fiona Curran’s An Accident Looking For Somewhere To Happen. Dylan said, “Is it a birds nest?” Aaron said,” Looks like a tank” and Kian commented, “it looks like a collapsed bridge or a tree house”. There were a few ideas already floating around about how the group could interperate a similar idea within the school grounds.

Nikita asked if David Blandy’s, The Devil Meets Dylan Thomas, was a miniature amusement arcade as everybody had a go and really enjoyed. Leah asked if she could make a little animation in response to this work, using some characters of her own.

Phoebe thought that Jock Mooney’s work was mounted on a large spanner and thought that the Swansea Devil was a man with donkey’s ears. “Is that the Swansea Jack?” said Keely. “Is there a spider crawling over the ice-cream,” said Kian and Aaron asked if the woman was from Antarctica, as he thought she was wearing a large hat. After the work was explained it made a lot more sense.

Phoebe had already seen Rik Bennett’s and Sean Puleston’s work on the High street and she really liked the shapes and colour used within both artworks.

The children thought that David Marchant’s Neon Artwork was wild and wacky. After understanding the process of working with the public they thought they could do this in school and use self portraits on a kebab combining Marchant’s and Mooney’s work. Matthew thought that they were really cool and said he was going to ask his parents if they would bring him down to see them lit up later on. Lauren thought that the thought process was creative and wanted to recreate lined portraits from coloured paper and stick them on the windows of the classroom.

The children loved playing in Tatham & O’Sullivan’s Shelters and said they reminded them of their school shed they had in their playground. Holly thought they were bird watching lookouts.

At the end of the session it was clear that the children had really enjoyed the Artworks and were full of ideas and were visualising them in their school grounds.

Carrie Richard’s the class teacher said, “the Artworks really made the children realise that art can be lots of different things and it opened their eyes to what art is”.

Dave Marchant 2012

Guided Tour of Art Across The City 2012 Had a great tour today with a dedicated class of listeners who were really […]

[4,63,10,161
363
post-5095","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-education","category-locws-schools","category-news","category-outreach-news","tag-locws-schools
["GET
