Initially, as eyebrows dipped to grasp the concept of contemporary art the open mindedness of the group allowed the students to think outside their normal parameters of what they perceived to be Art.<br \/>\nSome of the students had seen Sara\u2019s work and had already started to question what it was. \u2018Is someone trying to escape to an island\u2019 (Jordan)? \u2018Is it a den in a tree that has been flooded\u2019 (Richard)? \u2018Is it where people live in Africa\u2019(Ben). \u2018Perhaps it\u2019s an immigrants house\u2019 (Jamie). \u2018I wouldn\u2019t think of it as art as it is made from scraps of wood\u2019(Rebecca).<br \/>\nAfter an explanation of the work many related it to a recent devastating fire in which their school burnt to the ground on March 18th 2006. After learning about this work the group is considering a future project made from some of the debris material left from the fire.<br \/>\nTorsten\u2019s work was very much enjoyed as a few pupils started jigging when viewing. \u2018There\u2019s a beat, it\u2019s awesome it\u2019s obviously something to do with music.\u2019(Keelan). &#8216;I&#8217;m trying to find where different sounds are coming from\u2019(Katie). \u2018You don\u2019t know what\u2019s making what noise\u2019 (Ben), \u2018It\u2019s a musical masterpiece\u2019(Rhys).<br \/>\nOn viewing Niamh\u2019s sculptural mural, general comments were, \u2018it looks American, is it something to do with war\u2019. \u2018Is the sun a Japanese Flag symbol\u2019?<br \/>            There were many comments upon Milena\u2019s work. \u2018We use to draw like this in primary school\u2019 (Ben). \u2018Is it to do with slavery\u2019(Jamie)? \u2018Under developed countries can produce thing at a cheaper cost\u2019(Richard).<br \/>\n\u2018Does the artist get her inspiration from children\u2019s drawings and doodles etc\u2019(Ben).<br \/>\n\u2018Is it influenced by video games and films\u2019(Jordan).<br \/>\nAt the end of the tour the group were asked what they thought or the tour? \u2018We got to see different types of art\u2019. \u2018I normally think of art as drawing and painting but this exhibition makes you think differently\u2019. \u2018 It helps you to think about different ideas\u2019. \u2018Some of the work was strange but it was cool\u2019. \u2018It was unusual, it was new, it was inspiring\u2019. \u2018It was way better than any other art trips\u2019 (Joelle).<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/schools\/penyrheol\/penyrheol2.jpg\" width=\"425\" height=\"319\"><br \/>\nLooking at Niamh McCann&#8217;s mural on the back of the Dylan Thomas Theatre<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/schools\/penyrheol\/penyrheol3.jpg\" width=\"425\" height=\"319\"><br \/>\nLooking at Sara Rees&#8217;s floating sculpture in Swansea Marina<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/locwsinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/schools\/penyrheol\/penyrheol1.jpg\" width=\"425\" height=\"319\"><br \/>\nWatching Rhona Byrne&#8217;s film in St. Mary&#8217;s Church<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Artworks<\/strong><br \/>\nOn arrival, it was obvious that the students had been thinking about various ideas based on the concept of Locws 3 and it\u2019s site-specific work.
