\nGuided Tour<\/strong><\/br>

\nAfter the initial introduction the group concentrated on unravelling the meanings behind Rhona Byrne\u2019s work at St. Mary\u2019s Church. \u2018We see the contrast between the beach and the built up area\u2019 (Luke). Michael says, \u2018you get to see Swansea from a different perspective because it\u2019s high above\u2019 . \u2018The film seems to be focusing on the church which is old and the new buildings that surround it\u2019 , (Josh). \u2018 The cross on the altar was as though \u2018x\u2019 marks the spot there\u2019s also a cross on the runway and the plane is the shape of an x\u2019 (Laura). The situation of the work in the back room between the windows seemed appropriate to Mike as he commented on the fact that they were both linked to a space looking from the sky.<\/br>
\n<\/br>
\nThe initial reactions to Torsten\u2019s work were, \u2018wow its cool\u2019, \u2018sounds like music\u2019 (Polly), \u2018it sounds like percussion\u2019 (Ben). It brought up questions about Art in general, \u2018this piece shows that art can be different, it\u2019s very expressive\u2019 (Michael), who responded by body popping, which seemed to provide great potential for a performance piece of his own. Michael couldn\u2019t believe the amount of wiring involved and was intrigued on how it worked.<\/br>
\n<\/br>
\nMany pupils had seen Sara Rees\u2019 work prior to the tour and questions arose such as, \u2018Is it to do with poverty?\u2019 \u2018Is it about someone who has lived on an island?\u2019 \u2018 There seems to be a contrast with the expensive boats surrounding the shack\u2019 (Jack, Michael, James). An interesting comment from Polly, \u2018things don\u2019t matter what they look like from the outside it\u2019s the inside that counts\u2019.<\/br>
\n<\/br>
\nNiamh\u2019s sculptural mural was viewed as the background being a map, polluted air, the earth heating up and birds scavenging on the lookout for food. \u2018The red sun being associated with Japan\u2019, \u2018Is the background a cloud or a country?\u2019 (Michael, Luke, Polly).<\/br>
\n<\/br>
\nGenerally the pupils were very inspired by the work they saw in Locws 3 and look forward to giving a response to this artwork. Their teacher was very impressed with how open minded and engaged the pupils were towards contemporary art.

\nSome interesting concepts were put into practise when I visited the school. Some students being inspired by a mix of Rebecca Gould\u2019s performance with Torsten Lauchman\u2019s mechanical Orchestra and others inspired by Sara Rees\u2019 work in Swansea Marina.<\/br>
\n<\/br>
\nInspired by Niamh McCann, Polly created a mural around a corner, which was a graphic version of The Worm\u2019s head and Ospreys. \u2018 I really, really enjoyed it, it was fun painting a wall\u2019.<\/br>
\n<\/br>
\nThe group inspired by Sara Rees were prepared for some hands on physical work deconstructing creates and reconstructing Artworks – resulting in houses from the future. <\/br>
\n<\/br>
\nAnother group creating a video piece of mechanical bodies using mechanical tools – an extension of the hybrid. The boys body popping skills proving the main performance of the work. \u2018 I had a really fantastic time. I enjoyed being a robot. It was different to everyday school life\u2019, said Mike.<\/br>
\n<\/br>
\nThe students were very much engaged in the Artworks that they produced and showed utmost enthusiasm during the making process being very pleased with the results. <\/br>
\n<\/br>
\n\u2018Thank you more than anything! I mean that, it\u2019s much better than staying in lessons\u2019, said Michael.
\n<\/br>
