Works are informed by research of the locality, dictated by architecture and space, and through the uncovering of stories of identity, memory, place and history. \u00a0<!--more-->These findings provide context, with the form and narrative of the work resonating with the location and the viewer. The work also provides a sense of discovery; the installations are immersive and interactive, inviting the viewer to explore, travel, climb and reposition themselves in order to fully engage with the work.<\/p>\n<p>We asked Rich the following questions:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Who are you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Rich White.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Hello, how are you?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019m very excited and quite busy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">What do you do?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019m a sculptor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11389 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/artacrossthecity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/nest001.jpg\" alt=\"nest001\" width=\"981\" height=\"354\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><em>&#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.counterwork.co.uk\/index.php\/work\/nest\/\">Nest&#8217; \u00a0( 2011 ) &#8211; Battersea<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">What have you been doing recently?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019ve been preparing for Art Across the City, preparing for an\u00a0exhibition in Plymouth and I\u2019ve also begun a project in Peterborough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">What are you doing for Art Across the City in Swansea?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019m building a wall out of furniture between the old and new parts of the National Waterfront Museum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11352 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/artacrossthecity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Resistance_003.jpeg\" alt=\"Resistance_003\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.counterwork.co.uk\/index.php\/work\/resistance\/\"><em><strong>&#8216;Resistance&#8217; ( 2016 ) &#8211; Swansea<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">What are your ideas behind the work?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There\u2019s a lot of strong feelings for how Swansea used to be, and new developments and buildings are often met with hostility or objection. Over time, however,\u00a0feelings can change and we can learn of the benefits of these new structures or we can find ways to make use of them for ourselves. Sometimes these changes are never accepted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The wall, apparently\u00a0hastily erected using whatever happened to be at hand, is a resistance to the new &#8211; defending the old part of the museum from the modern part. However it has softened and a tunnel has appeared through it, allowing people to pass if they want.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">What do you think the public will make of it?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">I hope they will enjoy exploring the structure and walking around and through it. There\u2019s a physical act involved in engaging with the work as it offers you choices: Which side do you prefer?
