LOCWS International<\/strong> would like to introduce Sam Saidely<\/strong>, he is working with us on a 3 week work placement until Friday January 29th <\/em>in partnership with the ACT Training<\/a><\/strong> and the BBC Make It Digital<\/strong><\/a> programme, which is helping young unemployed people boost their digital skills and get a foot on the jobs ladder.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Here is a quick Q&A with Sam:<\/em><\/p>\n

Hi, whats your name? Tell us about yourself.\u2028<\/strong>
\nHi, I’m Sam Saidely.<\/em> Pleased to meet all your readers. All my life I’ve wanted to be involved with the arts, sadly the ability to draw\/paint escaped me. Luckily I picked up photography as a hobby and I’m able to have an outlet for my creativity that way.<\/p>\n

I graduated in Business Management from University of Wales Swansea. I’ve attempted to form ideas for business, yet nothing has come to pass as of yet.
\nI’m a warm, friendly and fun loving guy. I love movies, good conversation and travel. I hope I will be able to tell you more about myself again soon.<\/p>\n

How are you today?\u2028<\/strong>
\nI’m very well, I would be better if the weather wasn’t so gloomy (haha).<\/p>\n

What have you been doing recently?\u2028<\/strong>
\nI’ve been involved in a very interesting course run by the BBC called the BBC<\/strong> Make It Digital<\/strong> programme. The opportunity has enhanced my knowledge of social media and digital skills.<\/p>\n

We made all sorts of videos and marketing tools using many readily available software on the Internet. I feel like working on these has greatly improved my understanding of how to help a business grow its online presence. It’s also given me greater outlet for my creativity. It’s been a good end\/start to the 2015\/2016 period.<\/p>\n

How is your placement going so far?<\/strong>
\nIt’s going incredibly well. I had the pleasure of meeting David and Rebecca. They were very welcoming and had a good brief prepared for me. They were also extremely open to my ideas which make it a very fun and positive environment for me to work in.<\/p>\n

I had the privilege of going to take images of Oystermouth Primary School<\/em> in Mumbles. The school has a mural<\/a><\/strong> designed by the children, based on all kinds of sea themed items. It’s absolutely wonderful up close.<\/p>\n

What do you like best about Art Across the City<\/em>?<\/strong>
\nThe art that has been commissioned is unique and fantastic. I’m a firm believer that art enhances bare spaces and that’s the thing I love most about Art Across the City<\/em>.<\/p>\n

What are you hoping to achieve from this opportunity?<\/strong>
\nI want to do my very best as this opportunity is both rare and extremely important. I’m hoping to gain more understanding in marketing and build relationships in the art world. It’s a dream of mine to work in and around the arts.<\/p>\n

The placement forms part of the nine-week traineeship that includes training from the world-renowned BBC Academy<\/strong><\/a>. It teaches participants basic digital skills, such as creating simple websites and short videos for the web; and gets young people ready for work with employability skills and the work placement.
\nSam<\/strong> will be designing a digital media campaign for an exciting new LOCWS International<\/strong> project due to launch in the coming months..<\/p>\n

BBC Cymru Wales<\/strong>, the Welsh Government, Department of Work and Pensions<\/strong> along with ACT Training<\/strong>, are working in partnership on the project. The scheme is the biggest of its kind in Wales and is a vital part of BBC Cymru Wales\u2019 plans<\/strong><\/a> to help open up the creative and digital industries in Wales to a much broader range of people from all backgrounds.<\/p>\n
