LOCWS INTERNATIONAL: PRESS RELEASE 06.10.08

Artist brings Swansea Seascape back into focus in new exhibition

Swansea saw gales, rain and sunshine this weekend, but the inclement Welsh weather only enhanced a new project by Jennie Savage, which was launched this weekend as part of the Swansea Festival of Music and the Arts.

Jennie’s new project ‘Your Eyes are a Window (A Soundtrack to the Horizon)’ is a special ‘temporary cinema space’ that looks out over the bay. Viewers are invited to sit and take time to contemplate the mysteries of the sea. This contemplation is focused by a soundtrack to the view, which has been made on the beaches of Swansea and Gower. Jennie spent time interviewing and recording Swansea residents and visitors who gave an insight into their relationship to the sea.

“It’s amazing how you look at the sea in a completely different way through the temporary cinema space, and the soundtrack brings a very poetic perspective to it” said visitor to the exhibition, Laura Jerram.
Project Manager Grace Davies said, “We have already had many visitors to the space, and hope that more will call in to experience this special and unique project.”

‘Your Eyes are a Window…’ is located on the seafront by the Civic Centre and is free to enter. It is open every day 10am to 5pm until 18 October and the soundtrack lasts approximately 20 minutes.

The project was commissioned and organized by Locws International as part of Locws Projects ’08. It is run to coincide with Swansea Festival of Music and the Arts, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. A special ‘Art and Pasta’ tour of all exhibitions within the Festival will take place on Tuesday 14 October at 6pm. For more details please see the Swansea Festival website www.swanseafestival.org
