Two artists announced for Locws Public Art Open Submission

We are extremely pleased to announce the selected artists for the 2nd Locws International Public Art Open Submission. Locws received a large number of local, national and international applications from artists based in the UK, Portugal, Norway, USA, Germany, Australia, Sweden and Wales. The standard was extremely high with a wide and diverse range of exciting, eclectic proposals.

Following discussions between the Locws team and our selectors, Bob & Roberta Smith and Jane Simpson, the 2nd Locws International Public Art Submission has been awarded to two artists, Liam Aitken and Rich White.

Liam Aitken won two prizes at the Nottingham Open 2013 and recently had a solo show at Syson, Nottingham. His practice encompasses mixed media sculptures, digital drawings and paintings of geometric patterns made in response to autobiographical experiences, points in history, landscape, iconic architecture or natural phenomena. Rich White makes installation works about location, sense of place and the relationships that develop between people and their environment. Recent shows include G39, Cardiff; Oriel Davies, Newtown and A3, Birmingham. Both artists use public participation in every aspect of their work. We will be developing proposals with both artists in 2015.
