Having first seen his work when he represented Sweden as part of the Nordic Pavillion at the Venice Biennale 2007, we are very pleased to include his Jacob Dahlgren‘s work in our Art Across The City 2013 programme.
Dahlgren’s work mixes sculpture, collage, architecture and painting with large-scale participatory events. For Swansea, Dahlgren will lead one of his artistic demonstrations through the city centre to the Amphitheatre where a permanent sculptural work based on the demo placards will be situated. Based upon the abstract paintings of fellow Swedish artist Olle Baertling (1911-1981), the work is an optimistic and artistic demonstration, with the Amphitheatre becoming a place of peaceful contemplation.
Talking about the importance of the public’s participation, Dahlgren says it is ‘super important, I just felt it would be really interesting to make something in the city where I involve a lot of people. The best way of meeting people is to do something together.’
Dahlgren’s procession through Swansea is on the 7th September, with a series of placard making workshops happening throughout August.
Art Across The City takes place across Swansea from 6th Sept – 6th Oct featuring Jacob Dahlgren, Laura Sorvala, Juneau Projects and Matthew Houlding.
Jacob Dahlgren is represented by Workplace Gallery, Newcastle
